The Bayou Segnette State Park is located in Westwego Louisiana. If you like fresh water fishing then this park is for you. It has lakes, waterways and freshwater canals that all lead to fresh and salt water fishing. No need for a boat because you can fish from the bank or from several walkways going over water.

Bayou Segnette Boat Launch

There is a large boat launch on Bayou Segnette that leads out into the Louisiana swamp lands. Some really great freshwater fishing all around this area. Take a 30 minute boat ride south and you can access salt water fishing in the Lafitte area. The Penn is known for its fishing where you can catch speckled trout, redfish and many other varieties of fish including the blue and channel cats. During crab season set out a couple of traps and you are sure to catch a mess full, enough for a nice meal.

The park is best known for its nice wave pool, where children can ride inflatable floats on 2 ft waves. There is a charge to get in the pool plus there is a capacity limit so get there early. The surrounding ecosystem has a wide variety of swamp creatures. There are plenty of alligators that can be seen from the shore or roadside. If fishing with a red and white bobber the gators will actually chase it around as you real it in. There are also nutria, (looks like a beaver/big rat) and bald eagles. This is a great place for a kayak as you can explore the bayou. Bring your hiking shoes so you can enjoy views of the cypress-tupelo swamp on foot. There are plenty of trails that you can explore. Just make sure you bring some insect repellent as the mosquitoes can be a menace at times.

There are plenty of RV spots along with places to pitch a tent. If you are looking for a cabin then we have a treat for you with our floating cabins on the bayou. The cabins were built in the Summer of 2016 and come complete with a fishing porch that have a fish cleaning station with running water. Enjoy catching bass, brim, perch and catfish with live bait like worms and minnows. Artificial baits also work well or try fly fishing. You will have fun catching Louisiana fresh water fish right where you are staying.
